Marching Band: Day 1

Today was the first day of marching band. It wasn’t extremely bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. The wind was strong, thus causing my music to fly everywhere when the saxophone section was rehearsing outside. Oh, and I’m also playing saxophone in band, if you hadn’t already picked that up already! I’ve played the clarinet in band for about four years now, but I’ve gotten so sick of it, so I decided to switch to alto saxophone in the band. I have a strange feeling that the band director might switch me to the tenor though, but I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that I stay as an alto.

The basic marching band drills were pretty easy. The transition between the “at ease” and “attention” positions threw me off a little because apparently, they’re supposed to be done in one swift movement. Also, the movements have to be done following the beat of the person’s voice. It was pretty shocking that there were only three saxophone players at band camp today. I was expecting a lot more, but I suppose a lot of the saxophone players dropped out because they wanted to take a foreign language instead of band.

I’m hoping that tomorrow will be more… exciting.
