Here we go again!
Okay, so I’m basically stealing this from everyone else on the Intarwebz (ex: Hannah, Brian). 2008 was a pretty tough year for me, but in the end, it turned out pretty well! 8th grade was killer and I’m glad that 9th grade is a breeze so far.
Goals!
- Music
- Get a Unanimous Superior in CMEA
- Get into an honor band
- Buy a new saxophone mouthpiece
- Clean my saxophone more often.
Academics
- Have a 4.0 GPA for at least one quarter this year.
- Start taking SAT classes!
- Actually learn in my classes instead of just swallowing information and not applying it
- Have fun and not stress too much!
Interact (it’s a club on campus)
- Help improve relationships between the officers in the club
- Go to the Dominican Republic this summer (hopefully)
- Have an amazing charity dinner/International night
- Get to know and befriend our Rotarians
- Try and get more people involved in Interact
- Try and get people to be passionate about Interact instead of just participating in it for the community service hours
- Be the best freshman representative I can be.

Online
- Put together a new layout (this one is getting a little too dark for me)
- Post, post, post, post, post, post, post more
- Find more lovely people to host
- Be a snarkier Snarker
- Plan my Intarwebial resurrection and take over the world
Relationships
- Less sarcasm?
- Less snarky comments, more smiles.
- Say what I want to say and not care what the repercussions are going to be like
Highlights of 2008
- Bought a professional alto saxophone! (Selmer Series III ftw.
) - Got accepted as the Interact freshman representative
- Survived an actual Black Friday sale! (I shopped from midnight to seven in the morninnnnggg. Crazy sales man, crazy sales).
- Found God (I won’t go into that here—maybe sometime later)
- Got accepted into the Alameda County Junior High Honor Band
- Got to understand and know my brother more.
There were probably more highlights, but my mind is blanking right now, so I can’t think of any more…
What is your family doing to celebrate the coming of the New Year? Do you have any worries for 2009?
Coins
So, I’m a part of this club on campus called “Interact” and we did a school-wide event called “Coin Wars”. Basically, for every coin you put in, you get + points and for every bill you put in, you get minus points. If you were to really hate someone in another class, you could sneak into their classroom and put a dollar bill into their milk jug. We had this going on for two weeks, and our grand total was… $1480.04. This means that we can buy 83 biosand water filters and we can provide 453 people with access to clean water.
That’s not the real point of my blog though (I was just boasting). We spent 3 days counting and sorting the coins and then one of the other officers brought up the idea of how many famous people might have touched these coins. We had coins from almost all the time periods; 1914, 1924, 1965, 2005, etcetera. Martin Luther King Jr. could have used one of the quarters; John F. Kennedy could have used one of the pennies; Eleanor Roosevelt might have gone shopping with the dimes. The ideas are endless!
Every coin has its own story and history, but we can only imagine. Oh, the things we could learn from these coins…
