The Dark Knight

Today, I went to see the new Batman movie with my two family friends, Emily and Jessica. I wouldn’t normally write a blog about something like this, but if I didn’t, Emily would eat me (... just kidding… I think). The day started off at ten thirty (well, that’s when I woke up), and my parents dragged me out to lunch with my brother. We ordered about ten dishes at a local Szechuan restaurant, and to futher add to the Asian stereotype that we have small appetites… we all finished 1/3 of the dishes. We didn’t know that we ordered that many dishes until they all started invading our table. Then, my phone rang:

“... Hello?“
“Hey Alex”
“Who is this?“
“Uhm… *name is drowned out due to the chatter in the restaurant*“
“How did you get my number?“ I replied in the typical teenage tone of voice.
“Dude, I’ve *drowned out*“
“... *checks caller ID* OH SNAP. Hi.“

After that phone call, we decided that we would go to the movies together and see the new Batman movie. My brother volunteered to take us, and at first, he led on that he was going to watch the movie with us, but later, we found out that he was going to go watch Wall-E with his girlfriend. I’m pretty sure that my brother has never been a cartoon type of guy so… I will add this to my list of crazy things that guys do for girls that they like. Apparently, he had watched The Dark Knight with his girlfriend the night before; so much for spending quality time with family and friends!

Once we got into the movie theater, we saw the line for the movie was already growing larger and larger by the minute, so we hurried over to save our place in line. While waiting in line, my two friends started exchanging complaints, “I haven’t taken a shower since Friday! @)(*&#197” “I need to go to the bathroom…“ All of the complaining became an incessant buzz in my ear, but I tuned them all out—a useful ability that I acquired from years of lessons with my old piano teacher, who had quite a mean streak. After ten minutes of waiting in line, we finally got into the movie theater, and we claimed our seats. I have this weird habit of counting the seats in a row at the movie theater, and then dividing it by two to find out which seat is in the middle of the row. That’s Alex for you, always trying to get the best seat in the house. Hey, I paid a good 9 dollars, so I expect a good experience (well, technically one of my friends paid for me, since it was her birthday present to me).

The movie was actually really good. Heath Ledger did an amazing job with the Joker (RIP), and the special effects were really spectacular. I would consider this the best movie of the summer, although the summer is not over yet, so you never know. Sometimes the dialogue was hard to hear, which made the plot confusing at times, but that’s not the movie’s fault… I assume it’s my hearing loss from all the different instruments blasting off in my ear during band practice. Halfway during the movie, I poked one of my friends just to see what would happen, and she slapped me so hard on the elbow (it didn’t hur, but it made a loud noise), that the people around us started staring at us like hooligans.

So, have you seen The Dark Knight? If so, what did you think of it?

An early birthday present

So, as you may know (well, you better know ;) ), my birthday is on July 3. Last night, one of my friends dropped off an early birthday present because he was leaving for camp. Unfortunately, I wasn't home so I couldn't thank him for the present, but when I came home, I found a large white box at my doorstep. When I picked it up, my jaw dropped because it felt empty. "Oh... he got me an empty box..." *shakes the box* "WAIT, THERE'S SOMETHING IN HERE!" I was going to rip the box open to see what he had given me, but then I saw a little blue sticky note which said, "Do not open this until 7/3." "NOOOOOOOO. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL MY BIRTHDAY?" Way to go Juan, irritating me even when you're expressing your friendship. ;) I can just see his smug smile in my mind... *strangle* Maybe if I act like I never saw the sticky note... So, what do you do with presents that you can't open until later?
