Thundered

Ramblings of a Teenage Boy.

Nathan and Neil

Today, I went to visit my 'nephews' Nathan and Neil. Even though they're only two-and-a-half, they already have a long history. Neil was born three-months premature and the government spent over one million dollars trying to keep him alive. They were born to two teenage parents, unfit to care for them, so they gave them up to my aunt (in Chinese, you call all your close family friend's "aunt"). Nathan and Neil are of mixed descent -- Caucasian and Asian (the adoption agent didn't disclose what type of Asian). My aunt is really brave to adopt twins and also work at the same time. I don't know how she does it! Nathan and Neil are probably the most obedient kids you will ever meet. They pick up after themselves, they don't throw tantrums, and they say thank you. Well, it comes out as 'tank youuuu,' but it's the thought that counts! When I visited them today, my aunt asked me to play piano, so I sat down at the piano stool, and surprisingly, Nathan and Neil both sat next to me and just listened to the piano as I struggled to remember how to play a sonatina by Muzio Clementi. It's amazing how fast children grow. The last time I saw them, they were still without much hair on their heads, and they still drooled and talked in baby gibberish. When I went to visit them, they greeted me at the door with a 'Ni hao' and led me to their play area and showed me their Legos. It was really strange seeing Caucasian-looking children speak Mandarin. I ate dinner at their house, and they sat there patiently as I finished my dinner. They just sat there, watching Teletubbies. After the show was over, they opened the DVD player, took out the DVD, and put it back in its case. My god parents and I were shocked because... well, I mean... they knew how to work a DVD player! I didn't even know how to use a DVD player until I was... seven? Twins are especially fun to watch because they both have different personalities. Nathan is serious and brooding, while Neil is outgoing and loves to be tickled. Nathan sat there, staring into space, while Neil poked me until I cuddled him. Neil is a more passive person, while Nathan is more aggressive. When they both wanted a toy, Nathan just grabbed it out of Neil's hands and walked away -- Neil went to get his mom instead of fighting back. Oh, how he reminds me so much of myself... Appearance wise, Nathan and Neil are both future heartbreakers. They have the darkest eyes you will ever see, and their eyelashes are so long! I'm sensing that a lot of girls will be chasing after them in the future. But be on your guard, because if anyone tries to interrupt their learning, I'm going to come and hunt you down. Neither Nathan and Neil is to have a girlfriend before college, because I said so. Maybe I should rethink this, 'I'm never going to have kids' idea...
