Apple Woes

The hard drive on my MacBook died on Thursday night. You can probably tell that I'm more than just a little upset. Sure, all hardware is going to die one day, but I didn't expect the hard drive on my laptop to die so soon. I mean, I just got it in June! Apparently, a lot of the other MacBook owners are having the same problem that I experienced. You can see the post here. Basically, what it says is that my hard drive is dead and needs to be replaced. On the bright side, my laptop *should* still be covered by the Apple 1-Year Warranty. I logged into the Apple website to see if I had registered my Applecare or not, and it didn't show up as one of the products listed, but when I tried to register it, it said that there was something wrong with the registration, and that I had to call the Apple Support line. I remembered activating my Applecare when I first got it, so hopefully, I'm okay. I was helping my mom and brother pack for their trip down to San Diego, and when I came back upstairs to my laptop, it was asleep. I tried to wake it up by tapping the space bar, but then nothing happened. I heard a distinct beeping noise coming from my laptop, so I just held down the power button and turned it off. Then, when I tried to turn it back on, the Apple logo wouldn't come up, and all that I saw was a folder with a question mark over it. I inserted my Mac OS X Installation Disk 1 and I tried using the Disk Utility to fix my problem. Normally, that probably would have worked, except for the problem that it couldn't find my hard drive. Pray for my laptop's health! Edit:: I just came back from the Apple Store. I had to leave my laptop there so they could send it away to get the hard drive replaced. Hopefully, it'll be back soon, because I'm sick of Windows already.

Eeek faultiness… I can’t believe your harddrive died so soon. It took me years for my motherboard to fry, and everything else is still relatively intact and okay. I really hope you are able to get it fixed. Are you still able to use it otherwise? I don’t know how much of the computer is usable without a harddrive… you can tell I’m not comp-techie =P

    Good luck!

I got a brand new computer a fortnight ago and I had a power surge and then it wouldn’t turn on and I’ve lost all of the files which I imported from my old computer and hadn’t made back ups of. Damn technology!

Whoa. That happens on my pc a lot. Don’t you know how to bypass it? Idk, but on mine F10 is system setup or something. So i just press that when it’s starting up. (I shut it down by hitting the power button.)
