A Pleasant Surprise
My brother can be described as a a bag of tricks; you never know exactly what he’s going to do. He usually pops up during the most unlikely times, and one would think that my family is used to his surprises, but apparently, we’re not.
It was around one o’clock in the morning, and I heard the doorbell ring. I lay in bed, hoping that one of my parents would get the door because I was too lazy to deal with the hooligan was ringing our door bell int he middle of the night. After realizing that no one was going to answer the doorbell, I drudged out of my bed and walked down to see who was at the door. I heard my mom stirring in her room and then she came out of her room as well. We looked out the window, and at first, we didn’t see anyone at the door, but then my brother just popped out of nowhere.
I’ll admit, I was a little anxious at first because no one knew that he was coming to visit beforehand. Normally, if he was coming back from college to visit us, he would have called my dad at least (who would have told me), so this was deviation was shocking. All these scenarios ran through my head, “Did he get in trouble again at college? Did he get homesick again? Did he get kicked out of his school?“; I’m known for overreacting. After opening the door, my brother’s huge smile made most of my anxiety disappear.
“Hi Mom! Hi Alex!“
“WHY ARE YOU HOME? WHY ARE YOU HERE SO LATE?“
“Oh… SURPRISE!“
“O_O”
Apparently, he and his friend drove up from San Diego on a whim because they needed a break from their schoolwork. Phew.
So, when was the last time you were surprised?

I guess he’s just lucky that you’re not the type to carry a baseball bat to the door, in case of any potential burglars. ;)
