So, today, I was having a talk with my mom about death. Strange topic for a mother-to-son conversation, but it brought up some interesting topics and I started to think about things from a different perspective.
Alex: "Mom, when you're dead, who's going to give me hugs and money when I'm broke?"
Mom: "Silly boy. When I'm dead, I'll always be here with you."
Alex: *hugs mom*
Mom: "Why is your head so big? I wish your ears would grow with your head. Big ears are good luck."
Alex: ...
Though I'm an Atheist, I would consider myself a spiritual Atheist (would that make me... Agnostic?). Though our loved ones may come and go from this life, I believe they'll always be with us, watching over us. When people die, they never really leave us. They will always be here with us, even many years have passed since their death.
When people die, they will live on in our minds and hearts. As long as we never let them go, they will always be here with us for everything. Every breath, every step, and every mess up. Drawing on the ideas from Harry Potter, love is eternal, and not even death can take that away from us. If you love someone, then it will be forever. People can find solace in the memories of their loved ones, and hopefully, that will be enough to ease the pain of a death.
My mom tells me that when she dies, she doesn't want me to be sad. I told my mom that I would probably mope around for the rest of my life, but then she yelled at me and started lecturing me about how she wanted me to make her proud and not mope around after her death. That makes a lot of sense to me! If someone dies, do you think they would want you to be sad all the time? No (unless they didn't really care about you when they were alive).
Mom: "When I'm dead, don't do any bad things... because I will be watching."
Alex: XD
